Modern Mauve Garden
WHAT WAS REQUESTED
An interior designer was in the process of refurbishing a terraced
house in north London, and wanted her garden to be a stylish and
relaxing place. She also wanted more privacy, space for a hot tub,
a small water feature – and a modern, curvy feeling featuring
mauve and white flowers.
HOW IT WAS ACHIEVED

Although the client was not particularly interested in gardening,
she was very interested in her garden, and would look after it lovingly,
I felt. To eliminate lawn maintenance, decking forms a dining terrace
with the same boards forming a sweeping pathway leading to the hot
tub. Woven hurdles hide the existing mis-matched perimeter fencing
- this same material was woven into an S-shape on-site, to conceal
the hot tub once it was installed. Gently flowing water slips over
purple-grey slate into a rendered water channel, while the planting
emphasizes the vertical element incorporating grasses plus libertia,
irises, and day lilies.
