Portfolio: Traditional Urban Garden
WHAT WAS REQUESTED
The client wanted formality, symmetry and order in an outdoor entertaining
"room". In place of lawn, stone was requested, as was
greater privacy. The client also expressed an interest in using
strong colours.

To achieve formality and privacy, the garden was screened from
neighbours by trelliswork, with seating provided by a covered bench,
all painted dark forest green. Beds were enclosed with dark green
edging boards, complete with small finials. All trellis post finals
were gilded. For the "floor", York stone was cut to a
geometric pattern with central detailing provided by strips of inlaid
green marble. Due to strict planning restrictions in a conservation
area, the plans had to be highly-detailed and submitted to various
council departments.
For maximum impact and harmony, the entire garden was planted with
red-flowering shrubs and perennials.
